California is Leading This Fight
The author of SB 46 and SB 884—Senator Tom Umberg—is personally invested in this critical issue.
“Voter intimidation is not a hypothetical for me. On Election Day in 1988, I was an Assistant U.S. Attorney on duty at a polling place in Santa Ana when a bad actor dressed as a police officer stood outside holding a sign that said ‘Non-Citizens May Not Vote,’ questioning Latino voters. That effort was part of an orchestrated attempt to scare voters away.”
Earning strong legislative support, these two important bills will help ensure that every eligible voter in California is able to cast a ballot freely, safely and without fear.
Senator Umberg and his legislative colleagues will continue working to protect our polls, enhance voter participation and strengthen democracy.
