Young Senators 2026
High school students in grades 9th through 11th—this is your chance to learn how the legislative process works while gaining hands-on experience in public policy, community advocacy, leadership and volunteer service.
Build your resume, grow your network and engage in real policy discussions alongside elected officials and community leaders.
The application deadline is Sunday, March 1st by 11:59pm.

About the program:
This program is designed to serve 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students. Students should either live in or attend a high school in the 34th Senate District (SD34). First Priority will be given to students who live in AND attend a high school in SD34. Second Priority will be given to students who attend a high school in SD34, but DO NOT live in SD34.
If you are unsure, please use Find Your California Representative to identify if Senator Tom Umberg is your state legislator.
This application consists of three (3) parts:

- Application
Please review Program Information Packet with a parent/guardian before completing your application.
Resumes and letters of recommendation are not required, but they can help us get to know you better.
No prior volunteer or leadership experience is required to apply!
