Senate Judiciary Chair Tom Umberg Applauds LA28 Orange County Announcement

(Sacramento, CA) – Senator Thomas J. Umberg, Senator from Anaheim and a member of the Senate Special Committee on International Sporting Events: Olympics and World Cup Soccer, issued the following statement in response to today’s LA28 announcement:

“I’m thrilled with this morning’s news about indoor volleyball coming to the Honda Center in the 2028 Olympics.  Given that the USA Men’s and Women’s Volleyball National Team Training Center is located in Anaheim, this decision represents a coming home of sorts for the team, young volleyball players, and their families. Expanding venues and events into Orange County will make use of a varied range of transportation and accommodation options for athletes and spectators alike.  Along with some other similar efforts (skateboarding and 3 x 3 basketball in the San Fernando Valley and equestrian events in Temecula), this move will help to showcase the broader Southern California community to visitors from all over the world. I can’t wait to see some great digs with Orange County’s famous landmarks in the background.”

The Senate Special Committee was constituted at the beginning of April.
