Senator Umberg Commemorates Vietnamese Veteran Armed Forces Day

June 14, 2019

Senator Thomas J. Umberg (D – Santa Ana) releases the following statement in recognition of Vietnamese Veteran Armed Forces Day:

“It is my honor to recognize all Vietnamese-American residents of Orange County and beyond that celebrate this day in honor of those fought bravely for independence. On this solemn occasion, we remember the soldiers who had died bravely during the Vietnam War, honor veterans who are our friends, family, and neighbors, as well as those who continue to fight for freedom, democracy and human rights for Vietnam.”

Senator Umberg has also authored a resolution to be formally heard on the Floor of the Senate which recognizes, and celebrates, June 19, 2019 as Vietnamese Veteran Armed Forces Day, to celebrate the courageous sacrifices, and contributions, of Vietnamese Veteran Americans to California, and abroad.

Vietnam Veterans Day commemorates the sacrifices of Vietnam veterans and their families and is part of a national effort to recognize the men and women who were denied a proper welcome upon returning home more than 40 years ago. A South Vietnam Armed Forces Day ceremony will be held in Little Saigon, in Westminster, CA, this weekend, June 15 and 16.
