Senator Lou Correa’s Senate Concurrent Resolution recognizes May as Senior Volunteer Month. In an effort to highlight the contributions of local senior citizens, Senator Lou Correa and Acacia Adult Day Health Services partner to honor community senior volunteers at the 2013 Seniors Making a Difference Awards Recognition Breakfast. The 2013 call for nominations is now open until the deadline of May 31, 2013 at 5:00pm.

SACRAMENTO, CA - Senator Lou Correa (D-Santa Ana) announced that Senate Concurrent Resolution 26 (SCR 26) unanimously passed off the Assembly Floor, which urges the International Olympic Committee (“IOC”) to reverse its decision to eliminate wrestling from future Olympic Games.

SANTA ANA, CA –In honor of Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month, State Senator Lou Correa and the Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander Community Alliance (OCAPICA) will hold a special evening of cultural celebration on Thursday, June 6th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Delhi Center (505 E Central Avenue, Santa Ana 92707). The program will include legislative and community updates, various cultural performances from local performing artists, and an awards ceremony for local community leaders and organizations.

This measure designates May 6, 2013 as California Peace Officers’ Memorial Day, in commemoration of those noble officers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

OCTA is Accepting Applications for the Citizens Advisory Committee

OCTA considers public participation and community leadership to be vital components of delivering successful transportation projects and services. Officials are now recruiting Orange County community leaders for openings on the volunteer Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC).

What is the Citizens Advisory Committee?
The CAC, a 34-member committee appointed by the OCTA Board of Directors, plays a significant role in representing a broad spectrum of community perspectives on transportation projects, studies and outreach activities.

HIGHER EDUCATION FOR DEPORTED U.S. CITIZENS CLEARS FIRST HURDLE

Sacramento, CA – Today, The Senate Committee on Education approved Senate Bill (SB) 141, authored by State Senator Lou Correa (D-Santa Ana). This measure restores access to California colleges, universities and scholarships for young U.S. citizens, who are forced to live abroad as a result of their parents’ deportation.

“This was an important victory for young aspiring college students. SB 141 would allow U.S. born children forced out of the country, at no fault of their own, to pursue the American Dream and get a quality education,” said Correa.
